Count Hessen, Lowell’s father, sincerely loved his youngest daughter who was born late in his life. To save her, he searched far and wide for miraculous herbs and renowned doctors, and for his daughter who couldn’t play outside due to her frail body, he built a massive glass greenhouse.

Despite advice to reduce the scale due to the enormous cost of such a greenhouse, Count Hessen was adamant.

“My daughter’s world, at an age when she should be learning about the vast world, is confined to a single room. Could I, as her father, fail to even show her a world as big as this?”

The reason Count Hessen wanted to build such a large greenhouse was surprisingly simple. He wished for Lowell to roam in a slightly larger space. It was a love that could be described as blind and, in some ways, foolish, like most parental love.

Thus, Lowell always spent her time in the greenhouse. She did so before Peter came, and after his arrival, they played various games together in the greenhouse.

Lowell was content, even though her parents didn’t visit her often.

She had Peter, and the ground she stood on was proof enough of her parents’ love.

And that proof burned down with the Hessen mansion fire.

‘I had forgotten about it until now…’

Lowell walked aimlessly into the garden. The warm air, unlike the cold outside, was strangely familiar. Like a fish that had forgotten how to swim, Lowell submerged in her past within this space that held her memories intact.

‘The tea table, the fence, everything’s the same.’

The only change was Lowell’s height. She was now an adult, and the furniture in the greenhouse was sized for a child. The chairs and tables that seemed just right when she was young, the fence that once felt too high, now appeared too small.

Yet, even that felt unbearably dear to her.

Memories faded over ten years returned vividly. The nanny who always offered afternoon tea, her father who would carry her away when she fell asleep while playing, her mother who watched from afar without entering the greenhouse, her brothers who crafted crowns, rings, and bracelets out of flowers…

Mostly, it was red. There were pink and white roses too, but Lowell preferred red roses. Peter liked red roses.

She would get a bunch of thornless roses from the gardener and, using the methods taught by her brothers, make a garland to adorn Peter’s head. It was Lowell’s little joy.

Peter’s hair was bright gold, and the vivid, stark red complemented him perfectly.

Lowell would then gaze at him with twinkling eyes.

[You’re beautiful. You seem like the most beautiful in the world.] […That’s not true. You’re more…] [Come here, Peter. Try this too!] At that time, Peter was almost like a doll to Lowell. Lowell, who did not like her black hair and eyes, adored Peter’s bright blond hair and blue eyes. He looked more beautiful than any luxurious doll.

Peter, in reality, was a pretty boy who could even pass in women’s clothes. And since there was no one in the Hessen mansion who could counter the youngest lady’s stubbornness, Lowell always enjoyed dressing up Peter as she pleased.

She was delighted for not being severely scolded by her father and joyfully hugged Peter.
