“That’s quite an obsession,” his friend, Eunhan, remarked with interest, clinking his glass against Gyeon’s.
“Recently, you caused a scene at that restaurant in Nonhyeon-dong, didn’t you?”
Gyeon, instead of drinking, lit a cigarette. A click of his Zippo lighter, and a plume of white smoke billowed from his lips.
“That nonsense was all on that kid.”
“The new actor? I heard he was openly crushed by you.”
Gyeon rubbed his forehead slowly with his thumb, a look of boredom crossing his face.
“People still don’t realize I detest corporate lobbying and such. Yes, I could’ve let it slide, feeling sorry for his desperate attempts to get noticed. But he mistook Yuin for someone sponsored by me. That angered me, so I had him removed from the drama. Even made them reshoot his scenes. Poor Lee had to deal with it.”
A nonchalant shrug followed as Gyeon took a long drag on his cigarette, laughing mischievously.
Eunhan shook his head, laughing dismissively.
“Even if you’re dating a younger woman, don’t stoop to her level. Act your age, Director Do.”
“What does age have to do with it? I can’t stand to see her get hurt. I’m planning to only take her to places where no one else can see.”
“Ha. Are you really Do Gyeon I know? Chilling.”
Despite Eunhan’s critical view of his longtime friend, Gyeon just leaned back, smoke swirling around him.
“In front of her, self-control is hard. But when she looks up at me so innocently, I feel like I can endure anything for her. Then, when she’s out of sight, I feel anxious and jealous. Even I think I’m a bit crazy.”
“Yeah, not just a bit, you’re completely insane. Even the way you interrogated her about today’s schedule earlier was totally nuts.”
Eunhan, with his fairytale prince-like appearance, harshly commented while taking a cigarette from Gyeon.
To an outsider, that might seem insane.
But to Gyeon, as long as that one person sees him in a good light, nothing else mattered. And that one person would probably have no objection to it.
Gyeon smiled broadly, his lips drawing a deep curve as he answered every question obediently. “I’ve been thinking lately. If it were up to me, I’d tell her not to do anything without me. To meet no one else and think only of me.”
“Don’t ever say such things in front of that girl, Director Do. She’ll run away crying, scared. Especially since she’s so young.”
“She won’t run away.”
“Why? Have you already shackled her? Why can’t she run?”
As Gyeon casually flicked ash into the ashtray amidst rising smoke, he smiled sharply, “Because she likes me too.”
Eunhan, sipping whiskey, grimaced in disbelief, “You’re crazy. She takes even your interrogations nonchalantly. She’s perfectly suited for you.”
“Ugh… So when will you stop talking about this girl? It’s getting harder to listen.”
“Hard? Then why don’t you talk about your fiancée?”
Eunhan’s forehead crinkled. His fiancée was a sensitive topic, capable of spoiling his mood with just a mention.
Gyeon, knowing this, had brought it up out of spite. With a smirk, he switched gears, “See, you don’t like it either. Then let’s talk about business?”
Eunhan, Gyeon’s friend from their university days, now a business partner and the second son of SJ, a leading domestic corporation and president of SJ Hotel, made it a rule not to talk business in their personal meetings.
