But the more I did so, the stronger the grip of Danae’s hands choking my neck became. She spoke to me in a chilling voice.
“You’re getting cocky and acting up because I’ve been lenient, you insolent thing.”

“Did you think you were something special just because people praised you for being a little pretty and smart? Don’t make me laugh. After all, you’re just a murderer.”
“…Ugh, …If… I’m a… mur…derer… Un…cle… is…!”
I struggled to fight back Danae’s words while resisting to survive.
Danae looked down at me mockingly and opened her mouth.

I was just glad that the two people I cherished and loved seemed to get along like siblings.
But it was all a lie.

Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
