“Are you Kim Hee-Joo’s guardian?”
Entering the emergency room, Chae-Won gazed with a numb expression at the woman lying in a terrible state.
The woman, receiving emergency treatment, had bandages on parts of her body, and her barely recognizable face was swollen and bruised with dried blood.
“Weren’t you the one who called earlier? Kim Hee-Joo’s sister?”
Kim Hee-Joo, a customer who had visited Chae-Won’s dermatology clinic two months ago. It was only when she faced this woman, who shared her own face, that Chae-Won realized she was her long-lost twin sister.
In their early childhood, barely remembered, Hee-Joo was taken by their father while Chae-Won went with their mother to the U.S. to remarry James.
“Isn’t that right?”
After a panicked and hasty escape during their first encounter, Hee-Joo, like Cinderella leaving behind a single shoe, forgot her wallet.
Using it as an excuse, Chae-Won called the number written on the patient’s chart. That call led to their reunion two months ago.
Their initial meeting, filled with awkward greetings, gradually evolved into genuine conversations as they continued to meet – the second, third, fourth time, and so on.

They openly shared their days of longing to find each other but lacking the courage to do so. They even planned to properly introduce Hee-Joo’s kind husband soon.
But then, a sudden phone call came with Hee-Joo’s intense sobbing.
‘I’m such a fool for living like this. I feel like I’m going insane.’
‘What’s wrong, sister? Where are you now?’
‘I left home. Chae-Won, I really… I hate myself.’
Chae-Won managed to calm her down and agreed to meet.
While discussing where to meet, the last call with Hee-Joo was interrupted by a sudden scream.
Snapping back to reality, Chae-Won straightened her gaze.
“Yes, that’s me. What happened?”
“She was hit by a car. The injuries are severe.”

“I’m a doctor too. Can you tell me more about my sister’s condition?”
“Sure, I’ll show you the CT scan, this way, please.”
Arm, wrist, shoulder fractures, a crushed nose, and various bruises and abrasions – she was mostly injured in her head and upper body.
‘I want to die. I’m such a fool for living like this.’
She had talked about being happy with her kind lawyer husband and warm-hearted mother-in-law.
She had been so eager to look beautiful, even applying for Botox and skin care consultations. Why then this sudden cry of wanting to die?
Doubtful, Chae-Won rummaged through her bag.
“…Divorce papers?”
Folded divorce papers from a brown envelope, with an application date from a while ago, indicated that the issue had been there for some time.
Chae-Won’s eyes drifted to the husband’s name mentioned beside Hee-Joo’s personal details.

Noh Jae-Min. As she stared at that name, Hee-Joo’s phone on the side of the hospital bed began to ring loudly.
[Jae-Min]Something was amiss for her to seek divorce, but he was still her husband, legally the guardian.
Without hesitation, Chae-Won answered the phone.
“Hello.”
Hey.
Her brows furrowed at the first word.
Even if they were on the brink of divorce, calling one’s wife ‘Hey’ seemed disrespectful.
Are you really going to do this? We agreed to meet in front of the court, why did you stand me up again today! I told you to take your stuff out by today, why is everything still there!
Apparently, the divorce papers Chae-Won saw were the cause.
Adapted to Manhwa
Intending to divorce, Hee-Joo couldn’t go through with it and ended up leaving the house in tears?
Take your stuff right now! If you don’t remove it by today, I’ll throw everything away, understand that!
Was the fact that Hee-Joo couldn’t go through with the divorce indicative of still having feelings for this man?
Or was it something Hee-Joo did wrong that caused her husband to be this furious?
Hey, Kim Hee-Joo, aren’t you going to answer?
Chae-Won lifted the divorce papers she held in her hand to her eyes.
“203 Taeseong-ro 3-gil, Seoul. Is this the right address?”
As Chae-Won inquired, the man on the phone seemed flustered.
Oh, come on. Are you pretending to have lost your memory now? Do you think I won’t divorce you if you do?
“So, you’re there right now?”
Where else would I be! And what’s with the formalities? Have you hit your head or something?

Chae-Won lowered the papers, her face expressionless.
“The way you speak to your wife…”
“What?”
Could it be because they were twins that even their voices sounded similar?
The husband, seemingly oblivious that he wasn’t speaking to his wife, was still on the line.
“Just wait,”
After ending the call, Chae-Won gazed down at Hee-Joo, who was asleep after her surgery.
“You didn’t suffer through all this with that guy, did you?”
Hee-Joo’s face, now unrecognizable, was swollen and wrapped in white bandages and purple bruises. Her broken nose, though reconstructed, wouldn’t be the same as before.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
